Part I: Leeds Art Gallery, Saturday 9 November, 2019.
Part II: South London Gallery, Saturday 25 January, 2020.
To coincide with their 2019 annual exhibition, the UK's foremost support organisation for emerging artists, New Contemporaries worked with AWP co-founder Nick Thurston to pilot an innovative two-phase programme, New Writing with New Contemporaries. The project has a number of generous supporters and was developed with art writing platform Corridor8 as media partner. The programme of two public events in Leeds and London forms part of New Contemporaries 70th anniversary celebrations. It also continues the AWP's innovative approach to its annual symposium event.
Six emerging artists from around the UK were selected to take part in workshops, editorial discussions and the two public performances: Jude Browning, Lucy Rose Cunningham, Freya Dooley, Malachy Harvey, Leo Hermitt and Ruby Lewis.
The nominators were: Maria Fusco, Harold Offeh, Katrina Palmer, Heather Phillipson, Nick Thurston and Bedwyr Williams.
The programme will also generate 3 commissioned feature essays on the art writing platform, Corridor8, who are the media partners for the project. Feature one is by Holly Grange. Feature two is by Amelia Crouch. can be read here and here.
